Business bank charges, struck to nil
A schedule rather than a sales page. Part 1 sets out the charges that the term “no-fee business banking” strikes out. Part 2 sets out the charges it leaves standing — which is where the difference between one account and the next actually lives.
Nothing is published here yet. No provider’s charges have been recorded, and no amount appears anywhere on this site that has not been read from a published fee schedule and cited beside it.
Nil below means the charge line is removed by the term itself: an account that levies it is not a no-fee account and is out of scope for this publication.* It is a definition of the category, not a statement about any particular provider. Lines marked † are open: they are not settled by the term, and they carry no amount until one is recorded from a published schedule.
Part 1 — Lines struck by the term*
Part 2 — Lines left standing†
Schedule B — Matters to be published
The write-ups being prepared against Schedule A. None has been issued, so none is linked; each becomes a live clause as it is published.
Fee-free business checking, account by account
Novo, Mercury, Bluevine, Relay and Found set against the same schedule of charges, so the lines line up.
What each account charges for once the monthly fee is gone
One account per write-up, read down Part 2 rather than down the marketing page.
Reading a business account fee schedule
Where charges sit once the headline is nil: wires, cash handling, conversion spread, transactions in excess of an allowance.
A fintech account against a bank business account
What is given up for a nil monthly charge — branch cash, lending relationship, sweep arrangements — and when that trade is worth making.
Opening an account for a newly formed LLC
What the application asks for, and which lines of Schedule A apply before the first deposit clears.
Glossary of charge lines
A plain definition for every item named in Schedule A.
Schedule C — Basis of preparation
The rules the write-ups in Schedule B are held to, set down before there is anything to read.
Begin at Part 2, not at the headline
A nil monthly charge settles one line of twelve. An account is priced on the lines underneath it, and those are the lines that differ.
Match the lines to how the money actually moves
Wires, cash, payments abroad. The only charge that matters is one the business will incur; the rest is somebody else’s schedule.
Every figure carries its authority
Published charges are revised without notice. Where an amount appears on this site it will name the provider schedule it was read from and the date it was read.
An order of preference is an argument, not a measurement
Where accounts are placed in an order, the order is stated in words with the reasoning on the page. No account on this site is given a score.
Notes to the schedules
Referenced by mark from the lines above. They qualify the schedules and are part of them.
On the meaning of NIL
NIL in Part 1 states what the term “no-fee” is taken to mean on this site. It defines the category this publication covers. It is not a finding about any named provider, and it is not a representation that a particular account levies nothing on that line.
On the lines marked with a dagger
Part 2 is not settled by the term. Those charges may still be levied by an account that advertises no monthly fee, and they are the subject of the write-ups in Schedule B. Nothing has been recorded against them yet, which is why they read to be recorded rather than carrying an amount.
On figures, scores and rankings
No amount is published on this site unless it has been read from a provider’s own published fee schedule and cited alongside it. No score, rating, star count or tier is published at all.
On affiliate arrangements
Some links on this site earn a commission. That does not decide which accounts are covered or the order in which they appear, and it is disclosed on every page it applies to.
